Lindsay and District Model Railroaders

A progressive club for model railroading.

Our model railway club was formed in 1965 with the members meeting at each others homes until size demanded a more permanent location. Since then the club has maintained our own club rooms hosting both "HO" and "N" scale layouts. The club has become well known in our community and regularly attends model railway shows with our travelling layouts as hosted by other clubs in a number of southern Ontario communities. The club was incorporated in 2002.

Our Annual Spring Train Show, held each year since 1974, continues to attract large crowds of ardent train fans as well as families seeking entertainment. However, It's all about the kids. We want to involve the kids so we always have a Thomas the Tank interactive layout for them to play with.

The L.&.D.M.R. model of Lindsay Station Circa 1919

In 1890, the Grand Trunk Railway (the Midland’s new owner) built a grand two-storey building (Lindsay's fourth station) at the same location as the destroyed third station on Durham Street. In addition to the usual station facilities, this building also housed the administrative offices for the GTR’s 8th, 9th and 10th Districts. It suffered a serious fire in 1914, but was repaired. This fourth station was taken over by the Canadian National Railways (CNR) in 1923, and lasted until 1963, shortly after the cessation of regular passenger trains through Lindsay in 1962.

In 2007 the club has partnered with the City of Kawartha Lakes to create a Railway Heritage Centre at Memorial Park in Lindsay. Currently railway artifacts from our community and others are being restored and other community railway heritage artifacts are being targeted for possible relocation and restoration.
